For everyone who sells on eBay, it's a feature that should be considered when doing your auction listings. It's a simple setting but without it filled in properly, your auctions when they're ended will show links to any auctions that eBay feels fit the 'search criteria', in this case most likely 'lampwork'.

A case in point are two auctions ended recently, one by Emma R and one by Sally Carver.

If you look at the top of the auction listings now that they're finished, you will see four selections in a category called 'Similar Items From All eBay Sellers'. Sally's auction now shows links to four different listings that all sell imported lampwork.

You can change the settings so that people looking at your completed listings don't see recommendations to random other beadsellers.

Under your eBay Preferences, go to General Preferences, and then My eBay and untick the category for Show Suggested Favourite Sellers

They used to allow you to suggest favourite sellers and use the eBay IDs of friends or other people whose work you'd like to promote but now it's random listings or nothing. And nothing is better than recommendations of cheap beads.

Thanks for the heads up Su

Although I think the function is disabled in the "selling preferences" section under "Promoting Similar Items on eBay Pages and Emails."

If you click on that and it gives you the Marketing tools link where you can disable the cross promotions.

The funny thing is, I thought I had already done this months ago when it was first being discussed on the forums. Seems they changed it back Rolling Eyes

I think the function you mentioned is just to disable where ebay suggest other similar sellers to you in your "my ebay" page on your favourite sellers listings. Equally annoying though, so have turned that off too!

Sadly I think more and more ebay will be pushing the power sellers in the categories, regardless of their suitability, rather than similarly described auctions from around the world.

So far more likely to get UK sellers of junk lampwork appear simply because they are the high rollers.

its the same with how they have changed the search function recently. Seems that if you visit an old auction, such as Su's examples of mine and Sal's. - if you click where it says "listed in category" and hit the lampwork subsection, you are taken straight back to the main beads category anyway. And so you still then have to navigate your way back to the lampwork sub-section.

That just is dumb. If a link says the lampwork subsection, it should darn well take you there by golly!
