My Wigjig Olympus lite has finally arrived. I've had a bit of a play with it but haven't really got the right wire at the moment. Only have 24 and 22 gauge. Was thinking of starting off with some 18 gauge - does that sound about right?

Also, was reading about the need for something to bash the wire with when I've finished a design - do I need another tool?

18's a bit thick, I'd personally start with 20 making components that will keep their shape, but it depends on what you are making, and how strong your fingers are! Very Happy

they're quite useful.

Also are you working in sterling silver wire or plated etc. If it's plated hammering it's not necessary as it wont help harden the wire shapes.

Depending on what you make and how much you work the wire will affect how well your components keep their shape.
