I'm looking for some more weaves for beginners. Have tried Rhinos Snorting Drano, European 4 in 1, Byzantine, Box Chain, Shaggy Loops and Helm Chain so far. I'm trying to build up a selection of samples for my college portfolio before I go off and start making things.

Thanks in advance

It shows which are beginner weaves, and which are advanced. It's very good! Daisy

I'd say if you've done the list you mention, you should have no trouble with:

any of the japanese 'flower' weaves
double spiral
roundmaille
inverted roundmaille
turkish roundmaille
jens pind (it REALLY is not difficult - just has a bad reputation!)
förårs kaede
celtic visions
dragonscale
pheasible
scherzo
tryzantine
byzantine variations - olivia and romanov
full persian
half persian 3-1 and half persian 4-1 - both hard to get started but very easy to work up
flat box (queen's maille)
viperscale

I'm sure there are lots more, but my brain's still a bit fuzzy!

george Daisy

Thanks Pollie, George and Carmen, you've given me a nice long list to work my way through.

Jens pind linkage or JPL is easy as hell. the only reason it has a bad rep is it is very AR sensertive. I've used 2.8..just but found 2.9-3.1 is the best. It gives a nice chain length with good flex to it.

It's also knows as Lacey-Chain, but I think I prefer Rhino Snorting Drano!

Rhino's is cool, although i do preffer barrel weave. Basically you double the orbital or centre ring.

And yes Celia there are as of this morning 804 weaves according to the main maillers site. Although alot of those will be slight variants of another weave so i'd say roughly 400-450 seperate weaves now.

Can anyone say mail geek ROTFL Very Happy

Thanks for showing me that, Becky and Ali. I've only just come across your replies Wink I've never done any chainmaille, but it looks like there's lots of different ones to try.
