Hi - I've recently started using silver clay & so far have kept it simple.

I've got loads of questions to ask about techniques, kilns, which stones I can fire (if any) on my gas hob etc etc (I'll trawl through all the posts first to see if my questions have already been answered somewhere else).

Can someone tell me the best way to capture a fingerprint other than in person - ie send someone a kit & then be able to transfer the fingerprint to the clay. I'm sure it's really obvious when you know how....

Hi there Smile I'm a Level II Instructor of Art CLay Silver based in Edinburgh.

Feel free to ask any questions - there are a few metal clay fanatics that post on here, who, like myslef will be happy to help. With regard to which stones you can fire on your gas hob - your looking at cubic zicornias or CZ's. You can fire other materials - glass, porcelain etc with the clay but you need a kiln for that.

As for fingerprints. You need a decent moulding compound. take a mould of the fingerprint and then take a mould of the mould which will give you something to impress into the clay. Its straightforward. If you are unsure how to do it then the good news is that good moulding compounds are not expensive and you could practice on polymer clay.

Hope that helps. Daisy

And also a fact sheet on making fingerprints

thank you Jenny - I did look to see if I could find the info anyway on the website.
All I really wanted to know is what product would be most suitable to send in the post for non-crafty people to be able to use to imprint the fingerprint & post back to me. Probably silicone molding paste.
