A 50th Birthday Present!

I thought I'd let you see what kept me busy last week! I volunteered to make my friend a cake for his 50th birthday. He and a few friends have their own little band, so I decided to recreate his guitar! I was really pleased with the end result - it was alot of work and quite a challenge, but he was really pleased with it - apparently there's not a lot left!!!

My finest cake-y hour was my son's 2nd birthday when I stayed up half the night to finish his Postman Pat Van-shaped cake - he loved it so much he wouldn't actually let us eat it! (blimey, that was nearly 16 years ago Shocked

Thanks everyone. Think this is one of the best and most ambitious cake creations I've done so far, and I've done a few! It did take a while though - cakes baked on Thurs (two 9" squares, big cakes). Icing coloured and prepared Fri afternoon, took an hour just to do the red!! I also cut the shape out on Friday, that was a bit nerve wracking. My two boys love it when I do character cakes, cos they get all the trimmings! I assembled and iced it Sat morning and finished for about lunch time!

I wasn't in charge of the candles - they had a special musical, spinning, fiery one, which was a spectacle in it's self. The cruelst thing though - they got me to cut it!!! Laughing

Luuuuverly. Funny I had never heard of that make guitar until the meet up and then i heard it everywhere the next week.
