Hello
This is maybe a bit of a trek for most of you (worth it I reckon!) but I thought you might like to know that Laura McCabe (author of Making Jewelry with Swarovski Crystals) is coming to our Haddington shop on 6/7 September for two day-long workshops.
Her work is awesome and I'm so chuffed she's making the trip (and staying in my spare room - eek - better tidy up!). All the details are on our site, have a look even if it's just to drool...
Jo
ps congratulations to Silkworm, first person on the booking sheet!! _________________ Scotland's biggest bead shops, with branches in Haddington and Edinburgh.

Now, it's not often that I wish I still lived in Peebles, but I must admit that if I did, I'd be booking like a shot - Laura is my absolute beading heroine! I am soooo envious... but there is no way I can make it, it's after the schools go back...
Hope it goes well and look forward to hearing ALL about it and seeing lots of pix of fabulous creations! _________________ Lynn

September seemed very far away when we booked this and now the class is tomorrow!
I have got used to wearing my stronger glasses so hopefully I will be able to actally see the tiniest beads even if I am none to convinced about managing the required level of skill - really looking forward to it though.

Flights and taxi's are booked just got to pack my bag.
I can't quite believe I'm doing this... I hate flying and have butterflies today. Still a drink or two on the flight should help. I just hope the weather holds out.
I am sure it's going to be worth it!!!!
See you there.

Well I'm back in one piece!
What a weekend. Laura is a fantastic teacher and is very generous in letting you handle and try on her fabulous beadwork which looks so much better in the flesh. I'm on a beading high and I reckon it will take weeks to come back down. I was really lucky as I was able to spend a few hours with Laura after the class and Jo and I asked lots of questions and picked up a few tips (Laura managed to knock up about a third of a crystal burst bracelet in the time we were talking to her )
I bankrupted myself on Laura's kits and supplies but it is sooooo hard to resist, the kids will have to eat beans on toast for another month now. Lynn make sure you have a look through Laura's button bag!
Many thanks to Jo, Andy and Harry 'The Poo' for their hospitality and generosity. I reckon I'll start saving now and come back next year.

Would it be wrong to say I want to actually be Laura McCabe?! We have all just had the most fantastic weekend with her...it's been such an honour to have her teach here and have her company for 3 evenings too. We have beaded and chatted long into the night; I have learned so much from Laura in the past three days! She is also great fun, absolutely passionate about everything she does and a real inspiration. Have I gushed enough?
Lynn, you are going to have such a great time. And yes, the buttons are amazing - I snaffled 80 Victorian buttons to use as clasps - - like I'm ever going to have time to make 80 of Laura's bracelets or necklaces! Must have been on some kind of beady high when I bought them - still, they are really beautiful.
Laura promises to be back next year...excited already. In the meantime I have an invitation to go and browse the bead district of New York with her How lucky am I?!
It's not terribly good form to post images of half-made projects is it, so I'll save those for now, but here are a couple of Laura at the class. If you ever get the chance to go to one of her classes, take it!!

Good question, Peter! Size 13 John James needles and mashing with her teeth - not recommended, she recently went to the dentist, who filed down the grooves in her teeth that the Fireline has made. That's seriously grown-up beading, eh?!

Hmmmm I know Laura said don't do the teeth thing but every time I sit down I forget my pliers. I guess I'll be getting told off by the dentist next time.
It's quite surprising how many times you can pass fireline through a size 15, now the number of needles been broken getting it through is another matter.
