Hi can anyone tell me if they have had any success with this make of clay? I was just about to order a load but have read that it is very brittle, I would be using it to try and make jewellery items so was wondering if anyone on here has had any problems etc before i go ahead and order.

thanks lisa x

I am sticking with Fimo classic. I think I read somewhere that Sculpey is quite weak although I must confess that I have never used it

Sculpey III is less brittle than Sculpey, but still not really suitable for jewellery, although if the jewellery is looked after, you may get away with it.

Sculpey III also bakes with a slightly matt finish.

You are better off using Fimo Soft. Fimo classic is an excellent strong clay, but difficult to condition.

Kato clay is also excellent, but again, difficult to condition.

My personal preference is Premo. It's easy to work with, bakes hard with a slight flexibility, has a terrific colour palette, mixes well and is just the best. Mr. Green Also, it's no dearer than the others.

hth, hun.

Sculpey 3 is lovely in many ways. It has an almost porcelain like finish when baked and comes in fantastic colours.

But as Lou said, it is brittle.

I think for jewellery it makes fantastic solid beads, (rounds, barrels - you know, sturdy shapes) but that is about it.

That said though, I think it really is lovely for those types of beads.
