there are a number of tools you couuld use eg marxit, ruler or a tool that comes with bead rollers however easiest is to roll a sheet of clay through pasta machine then use a cutter to cut circles -each will contain same amount of clay and can then be made in identical sized beads. for making lentils try using a small metal/acrylic square -it takes practice.dont forgot to let lentils really rest before piercing-hope that helps |

Thanks fkb - I'm not sure where to get a pasta machine I'm conditioning by hand and then cutting circles. I'm using a sheet of glass - maybe it is too big a piece. Great tip about letting it rest! I'll got have a looksie. _________________ Hedgelands Glass Gems: handmade jewellery and stained glass. Now select designs available on Etsy -

You can get pasta machines all over, hun. Argos, kitchen supplies, supermarkets......
I use a cutter to measure my clay, like fkb said. The Polymer Clay Pit has a nice range of cutters (so does our Emma).
Loving your beads, hun. The blends on the flat ones are great. _________________ LORRAINE

Aldi and Lidl (and the other discount supermarkets) often have pasta machines at real bargain prices.
Fab beadies missus!

I love those shiny beadies, I thought the swirly ones in your necklace were glass not polymer.
Are they hard to make?
I really think I ought to get some fimo and have a go, they look fab.
I picked up a pasta machine in a local charity shop a while ago for £4.50, always worth a look when you're in town. I also got a 16" string of MOP hearts and a 7 strand bracelet of 4mm black faceted glass the other day for £2.25.

Which swirly beads in which necklace. The white/silver and the black/blue main beads are polymer clay. Not too difficult to do rough as I've done them. Basically create the bead but leave it a bit thicker than you want and then put on a texture mat and sandwich it between the textured side. Use a roller to make even impression (that was the theory and it mostly worked ok).
I'll check Tiverton but not sure there are many people round these parts with pasta machines - worth a look though. _________________ Hedgelands Glass Gems: handmade jewellery and stained glass. Now select designs available on Etsy -

I though the swirly beads were the same ones in your tablets necklace you posted the other day but have just gone back and re-read the post to see that they are dicro glass.
The new beads look so much like them though.

Thanks Caroline! got these already into necklaces and a pair of earrings. I like foil and texture - just need to work on my finishing for beads and shapes!
Melanie - yes they are dichroic wrap beads. The foils do look very much like uncapped dichro though. _________________ Hedgelands Glass Gems: handmade jewellery and stained glass. Now select designs available on Etsy -

I love the stuff you are making pet.
Tesco have pasta machines for about £15 Aldi is much cheaper though they don't carry them all the time. I have just ordered an extruder and some cutters from America. It really irritates me how much more we have to pay in this country for our craft stuff. Sorry to rant but I do usually buy in Britain even though it does often mean paying more. |
