Hi All, I wonder if you wouldn't mind making some recommendations for magazine issues (available to buy), tutorials (to buy is fine), books that have nice projects tutorials for making different effects on beads - I'm interested in foil effects and texture as well.

I'm asking for recommendations as there are so many available from our independant uk sellers that I just don't know what to choose. I have a basic How to make beads book but that is quite broad brush and focuses on canes and things that really do require a pasta machine (which I don't have at the moment).

Heart
Michele

The Polymer Cafe is a great mag and dedicated to clay. Lots of bits of jewellery in there on a regular basis. I get it every time and love it. Polymer Clay Pit and Emma sell it over here.

The first five books on this page are all good. I have them all (well, waiting for one of them at the mo) and I look at them regularly. The 3rd one down is perhaps, the worst.

I like the Linda Peterson and the Carol Blackburn ones. The first is (imo) badly edited/written - some directions seem incomplete, but she does answer any queries you have. There's a wide range of projects to make finished jewellery. The latter one has good instructions and photos which are very easy to follow.

I also have the book by DK that Nan's link goes to.

It's one of my faves. Can't fault Donna Kato in my opinion.

I do have a problem with books though. I love them and can't stop buying them. Mr. Green I'm waiting for three at the mo including the Linda Peterson one that Carrie put me on to.

Thanks for the books and the links to the tutorials. I read that D Kato's book is better for more experienced polyclayers. I have to say though that the images look very tempting. Daisy

I really love books too but they are so expensive, I'd rather look things up on the net and spend the money on clay.

Rubbish!!!! You'd have no prob, Michele. From what I've seen, you'd easily be able to do the projects. Go treat yourself, hun. It's a fabulous book, I love it. Mr. Green

Thanks Lorraine I just succombed to temptation and bought the book Thumbs up I've made several more fuglies but all in the cause of figuring out what you can do with this stuff. They are good for experimenting on (drilling, sanding, engraving and other basic torture techniques!).

I'm nearly finished a hollow lentil (big one) bead as per your instructions. I did run out of steam sanding it down but I have used the liquid polymer to stick them together and now I'm waiting to put it in the oven with a band of copper mica soft fimo later today. Also playing around with my own version of stained glass. I have to say I find the soft too soft for beads. I like it for covering mint tins though. Very Happy
