Haha! Yey! I am soooo Very Happy I now can do three chain maille weaves...shaggy loops, byzantine and now....tonight....HELM!! Yeye! I have found this weave more difficult than Byzantine and have had some Brick wall Brick wall Brick wall moments with trying to get the bigger ring through the 4 others but I perservered and I have 3 inches of a necklace done up to now!!! Haha! Will try to get it finished tomorrow and get all my piccys on my blog but I have been busy these last few weeks.

Anyway, advice for next time. I have been finding it difficult to get the last ring through the middle and sit correctly through them before closing it.

Any advice to make it easier to get it through or is it simply pracitice?!

A very happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy J x

Ooh just looked on my trusted tutorial website I've been using but the Jen Pind looks scarily too difficult for me at the moment! Scary scary! Evil or Very Mad

But the Rhino's snorting looks Thumbs up so I may well have a go at that next. Thanks. Very Happy

Ok...any advice for Helm next time?!

If you are making helm the same way I do, you create a 2 small 1 large chain, then 'float' a large, closed ring over the 2 small and lock this in place with a final large ring parallel to the first.

The only 'trick' to this is not to open the final ring too much, and simply spiral it through the four rings before closing. If it's any help, I find this easier with that ring opened so the right hand side is pushed away (I maille right handed!)

Not sure if that's helpful, or just more confusing!

Thanks George, I think I know what you mean, is that the same way as they suggest on CG maille? I didn't really understand their instructions so have followed some instructions from my BEAD 2007 Calender someone got me for Xmas last year! You do 4 large into 2 small, open the 4 large and hook the last large ring inbetween. Then two smaller into two larger and slip the large ring in again. Hope that makes sense!!

I think I need to keep my last larger ring slightly more closed and parelell not wonky! (very technical!) to make it easier to guide it through the rings, like you said. I will have a go today as I still need to finish off my necklace. Thanks for that George! Thumbs up

SamF81 - I have been using my bead calender and also the internet tutorial off

OK, I see the problem now! I think it's much harder to add the floating ring at the end. However, the same advice applies - don't open the ring too much, and kind of screw it into place. It isn't that easy to get a great closure though, as you have no room to really move the ring around. This becomes even more of an issue if you are using a higher gauge wire.

And yes, I work the same way as the cgmaille tute (having just been too look!).

Good luck with the rest

Thanks George. After re-reading the CG maille site the instructions seem to make so much more sense and be so much easier than the others I have been using! I think I will try it this way for the rest of the weave. Thanks.
