Hiya

Just having a good read through the posts and wanted to ask if anyone can recommend a book or web site (cheaper) for complete beginners with polymer clay?

Been having a quick look at some of the ideas given but just wanted to check with you all.

Ta

Tracey

Hi Tracey

There are lots of good sites on the web for clay projects.

Firstly, I have a couple of tutorials on my website (click piccy below my sig! )

You might also like to take a look at

. They have a great site with lots of links and a really useful, friendly forum.

Also, you can just try googling "polymer clay projects" and see what comes up - sort of a cool claying lucky dip!

Another useful site is

- this is a collection of useful titbits from internet discussion groups over the years, all archived by subject matter. Great if you need to research a particular product or technique for your claying, but not so much a project site.

Also, you might be interested to check out Polymer Cafe magazine. It is an american magazine dedicated solely to polymer clay art. Each issue really does contain a wealth of info. You can find it in my online store (I carry Fimo and tools, supplies etc too in my online store as well as my beads)

Hope that helps and welcome to the wonderful world of claying!

Hi Tracey,

I have found two books particularly inspirational as a beginner in making polymer clay beads:

How to make polymer clay beads by Carol Blackburn

The art of polymer clay creative surface effects by Donna Kato.

I would say the 1st is great when starting out. The second is worth looking at after you've made a few beads. If you can only buy one book, I'd buy the first (both available from Amazon). However, you don't have to have a book - look at the various websites mentioned above.

All the best

I endorse Sam's suggestion of the Carol Blackburn book - it's excellent for a beginner - and although I have learned a lot on the web, there's nothing to beat having a page open next to you while you work! (I guess you don't want Fimo in your keyboard Very Happy )

I have borrowed a lot of books from the library - you should be able to order them from within your county library service even though your local one may not stock them. I browse and reserve the stock online but you could do that in the library if you don't have an online account. It's so very useful to be able to do this - and I can also renew online.

I would be surprised if this facility wasn't available everywhere - after all, this is Suffolk - if we have it....well.... Laughing

Hth!
