Has anyone ordered a Indian Disc cutter from Manchester Mineral, I ordered one, and it completely mangled the disc and left massive rims on the discs to, to add insult to injury I rang up expecting a refund and I have to pay shipping to return it and then they might not refund me anyway , they will inspect it and if they decide its me that has damaged it they will not refund me Brick wall what the heck its just rubbish I haven't damaged it, can anyone recommend a decent disc cutter, Krista x

Hi

That's a bit of bad luck, and bad customer service! I got my disc cutters on eBay at

I'm quite pleased with them, especially at the price I paid compared to others!

I've got one the same as the english made one on MM (though I got it from Suttons), which was a gift - if I'd been buying for myself I'd have probably gone for the one from jewellers-tools, which I think is brilliant value (as is their big doming punch set). I've been very happy with mine, and I use it a lot.

I do know somebody who has the cheaper one, and they said it's fine as long as you don't try to cut sheet thicker than about .5mm, and use a good deadblow or hide mallet to get a clean cut in a single blow.

I agree that the customer service should be better - it's a shame as I've had pretty good experiences with MM in the past.

Thanks for that that I think ill go with that one, Iv had good exsperience with them in the past 2, I ofden used to order from them when I lived in Cyprus, but telling me they would inspect it to make sure I havn't damaged it made me mad.

This might not be the answer but it happend to me when i was at my silversmithing class. Bashed the disk out and it looked more like a bottle top with sides.

Try using the other end of the punch, sometimes you put them in wrong and dont realise. After that i had no problems and it looked like a cheapy.

Ah well worth a try eh ?, but dont let MM bully you, if you buy something off the internet or mail order you have a cool down period, and not forgetting its not its not fit for the purpose of which it is intended so you can get them on that (and the return postage).
