Hi,

((Sorry, also posted this in 'help' section too as it kind of fits in both)).

I hope one of you seed beadie experts can help me. I'd like to give the 'Loop-di-loop' bracelet in Bead issue 8 a try this weekend, but I have a couple of 'daft' questions.

Why does it say not to cut the thread, but just to unwind as much as you can comfortably handle? If it is so that you don't have to join in new thread, how do you know how much to unwind? (I have teeny tiny wrists).

How do you finish off the piece. It doesn't tell you. It looks like they have used calm shells to finish it off. Do you clamp these over the first (stop bead) and last one (the additional seed bead) to finish it off.

Sorry for the silly questions, but the stitch itself looks fairly easy to do. It's just these couple of things that have me perplexed.

Thanks in advance,

CQ

I have a feeling that something was missed out of this article - I did email them to ask about it a while ago, but I think the question got lost among some other stuff and it was never answered.
You could try emailing them again, or post on the Bead mag forum and see whether anyone else has figured it out - I'm afraid I haven't had time to try it but I am also mystified by the not-cutting-the-thread part!

I made a couple (complete seed beady novice) - I followed the tut to make one but it seemed really floppy & didn't feel secure.
So I made another but this time I first threaded seed beads onto Beadalon to the required length of the bracelet & used crimps to secure the toggle clasp. I then followed the tut to do the loops - this one seemed a lot better. (seed beaders will probably by tutting at me using wire! Very Happy )

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestions. I will post the query in the Bead Mag forum - good suggestion - although I can't remember if I've joined that one as yet. I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought that some of the instructions were 'odd'.

Thanks,

CQ

Edited to add: I must have joined the forum, but it's not accepting my password Evil or Very Mad Will have to investigate further over the weekend when I have more time. Lynn, which email address did you use to contact them? Maybe I could try that.

Can't remember but it was probably in a message I sent to Jean Power about a whole load of stuff, so it got buried. My fault for rambling on!
Her email is jean 'at' ashdown.co. uk, I'm sure she'd take it seriously if you sent her a query Daisy

I made a couple and stitched a bead or button on one end and a loop of seeds on the other, or you could sew on a closed jump ring and attach a clasp. I ignored the bit about not cutting the thread!

Thanks again Lynn and thanks Di for the suggestion. I've managed to log on to the bead mag forum now, so will try a posting there too, although it seems from replies on here that:
a. It doesn't matter whether I cut the thread or not and
b. I can finish it off however I like Very Happy

I'm planning on a nice mix of brown seedies for this, so might give it a whirl either later today or tomorrow.

Thanks again for all your replies,

CQ
