Gutted, can't make it. Had a full tank of petrol and was ready to go................................but one of my bosses fell ill and the other one with whom I was going with is having to run the shop so trip cancelled. I was so looking forward to it too. Never mind.

Does anyone know of any demo's/workshops etc in lampworking near to Surrey?

Jane Sad

I tidied up my beading desk instead, not quite the same buzz but rewarding never the less. I was going to post a pictue of it on this forum to see if anyone elses got into that sort of state but I was so ashamed of it I chickned out. Found all sorts of things I've been looking for for ages!!!!!

We popped into Nottingham yesterday afternoon and I went into the bead shop to pick up a magazine. Whilst in there I spotted this lady and her daughter and they were looking at the cabinet of lampwork beads etc and I noticed they had got two Flame Off tickets in their hands. Me being me, not shy in coming forward (I said it before you, Peter!) I asked them if they were going. Erm, no was the answer!! They were stranded in Nottingham with no way of getting to Towcester. They had come over from Germany the night before and planned to travel to the Flame Off on Sat morning - there is no direct link to Towcester from Nottingham. They discovered it would be a 3 hour journey via Northampton etc and it wouldn't start till 3pm!!! I was gutted on their behalf. The lady had a case full of her lampwork beads, which I managed to get a peek at and they looked lovely, but no amount of my ooooohing and ahhhhing at her beads could make up for their disappointment.

Oh no, what a sad story!

I can imagine your guttedness for them Alison, I'm feeling it now Sad

There was a couple of posts on Frit Happens this week about people trying to work out how to get there from different airports and train stations - Towcester is lovely and central for car drivers but pants for public transport.

I had a really nice time, but was a bit limited by having small daughter in tow! I made a bead on a HH, but had wanted to see what a Nortel M was like, except the air conditioning was blowing the flame around! We also got there late because a van was totally burnt out on the M1...hmm, there seems to be a theme developing here!! So I missed Emma's demo, but it was nice to say hello! I kept seeing lots of people with amazing beaded necklaces and felt I should say something, but was too shy! How hopeless am I? I had to stay with MIL in Leicester, so it was all a major trek from the Wirral, but I really enjoyed it. It seemed really well organised and wasn't overcrowded. I hope there will be more in the future!
Best wishes, April x

Just back from the two days at Towcester.

What a fabulous job Martin, Simon and the rest did on the set-up, the organization and the whole two days. From our point of view everything went like clockwork.

Mike really enjoyed doing his demos, and had a lot of very positive comments about them. I'm looking forward to seeing who's going to be there next year, with a great pool of beadmakers which grows all the time, it could be interesting to see who is invited to do the demos next year.

EmmaG was fab but then she's always lovely. Sally's talk was great, and the rest of the day was the perfect illustration of the variety of styles and techniques out there. I always say that you can put 50 beadmakers in a room with 50 torches and get 50 totally different pieces of work. It happened this weekend, with all the people having a chance to try out the torches. I know that it will be just as good if not better next year.

Well done, everyone, and thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to Mike.
