Just got back from the Honiton agricultural show where as usual I searched out the craft tents and the jewellery stalls. There were only about 8 jewellery stands in the craft tents -, but whether that was by selection or lack of applicants I'm not sure. I was very disillusioned with their interpretation of crafts though, six or seven of them had at least two-thirds or all bought in jewellery. Mainly the chunky silver edged gemstone pendants from India. The jewellery made by them was virtually all strung with cheaper Chinese beads or pearls, no handcrafted silver, swaro's or lampwork to be seen. The prices were about the same as the jewellers shops too.
I saw one lady try on a 4 strand 'tiger tail' floating pearl necklace which broke at the clasp as she took it off. They couldn't repair it, but luckily had another in their stock which she bought instead.
Am I on the right lines or stuck in a 'write the theme tune, sing the theme tune' train of thought.
