Brick wall

Hi Guys,

I've just started out on beading so this will be the first of my (back to basic) many questions for you.

today I have attempted to make earings, but I'm not getting the loop right. I bend the pin to 90 degrees an try and loop with my round nose pliers but i end up ither kinking the nail pin an I can't seem to get a perfect loop.

do I have to loop at a certain length?? Im confused.com

Any tips will be very much appreciated for this newbie xx

Thanks

Chantelle

Start your loop with your chain nose pliers, hun.

The plier just touches the top of the bead. Bend it over and then put your round nose pliers into the bend and bend it back on itself. Then, adjust your pliers to the top of that loop and bend back again (you'll be putting the opposite arm of plier into loop) . You can then wrap it, or gently straighten it into the middle of the pin.

That's how I do it anyway. Bit difficult to write the instructions, but hope that helps.

Dear Chantelle,

A really handy tip I picked up from this site. Put the beads you want on a head pin (or whatever), then use an 8mm or 10mm bead that is not part of the design and put it on top. Then cut the pin tight to the top bead - then remove the bead. You then have exactly the same length for the loop each time. Here is the link to the tutorial (from this site)

Hope that link works, if not it is in handy hints and tips - and the thread is called "perfect loops".

I personally use the 8mm as it gives quite a small neat loop, but if you are a beginner, it might be easier to start with a 10mm bead so you have a bit more wire to work with.

Try Youtube for tutorials on making loops. I was shown how and personally use round nose pliers. There is also a book which gives lovely tutorials on the basics by Mark Lareau called "All Wired Up", which I found very helpful.

best regards
catherine-emma

Well, thank you very much, hun. I'm glad you like them. I've been at it for a couple of years now, not sure exactly. As for pricing, yes, the girls here told me on day 1 that I underpriced, but I can't seem to get it right, LOL

C.E's tip for a basic loop is excellent and may well get you sorted, but don't try it for wrapped loops as you obviously need more wire.
