|
|
The news lately is just soooo depressing, the price of food, the price of fuel, the value of houses - the dreaded the credit crunch!
So thinking in a round about way I decided we need money to bring us some happiness so your challenge is to create something positive on the theme of money. Credit goes to everyone who enters an inspired creation for this challenge!
You can take inspiration from money itself (e.g by using coin charms) you can be inspired by a money issue, you might want to make a beautiful creation out of things that didn't cost you any money or your best bead bargains, you can even look up lots of Only registered users can see links on this forum! Register or Login on forum! | and create something inspired by the synonym (mmm bread jewellery)!
Your creation can be in any colour or materials but must be clearly connected to the challenge theme.
Not only are we looking for a positive (inspirational creation) but something that takes the theme and runs with it!
To enter all you need to do is post up a picture of your creation in this thread, and tell us what your creation represents, what aspect of the theme you were inspired by.
You can enter any bead, beaded or jewellery item. Don't forget that also covers/includes wire work, metal work, polymer clay, lampwork, accessories trinkets, and jewellery etc!
All you need to remember is that you can only enter one piece (or set) per challenge.
The closing date is the last day of August, and I really look forward to seeing what you come up with, as this may possibly be my maddest unusual theme so far!

Am I allowed to reply on this thread? Cos I'd love to see someone do a cartoon bead or beadweaving of Gordon Brown or Meryvn King.

Seriously I think this is a really interesting theme. _________________ Hilary

Hrm.... this should be interestingly fun. I finally have a reason to disassemble that horrid sickly-pink bellydance necklace I rescued when my teacher had a craft jumble sale - there are pretty coin charms on it, but Im' not a fan of the Pepto-Bismol pink wood beads - and use up some of my mismatchy and just plain odd beadies!!!
My mother is encouraging the Bead Monster. She bought me a book. Which, of course, the dog knocked under the couch so now I have to move the couch and fish it out... lol! _________________ Sarah

My entry for this months challenge.
I have chosen to use tigers eye.
Tiger's Eye is said to bring good luck, prosperity, wealth and success. It is also good for protection.

|
|
I know I've gone a bit mad here, but I decided it would be fun to try and make a necklace out of materials that cost almost nothing - so I set about saving up and drying out all the melon seeds so I could make some beads. I needed some sort of spacers to break them up and I looked out of my kitchen window last night and spotted the bamboo canes holding up my sorry tomato plants. So I then set about chopping bits off with my secateurs. The design was missing something so I stumbled accross some craft wire that my sister gave to me over 5 years ago (I've haven't really done any wirework before, so apologies that the wrapping isn't up to scratch). The melon seeds are quite soft, so I could make holes with a pin. Similarly the centre of bamboo canes were soft too and it was no trouble to make holes.
Anyway, here's the story behind the name of this piece...
Sherlock Holmes was investigating a murder in Cheshire, when he decided to spend his day off enjoying a visit to the races. When he arrived at Haydock racecourse, he was astonished to find that there were no horses, just oodles of beads. Being a discerning man, he decided to peruse the beady stashes more closely. Before long, he stumbled accross the necklace below abandoned in a dusty corner and he proceeded to examine it closely with his magnifying glass. Watson turned to Sherlock and said "What is it? Is it a clue?" Sherlock peered knowingly above his eye glass and with a wry smile replied...
..."It's a melon entry my dear Watson!"
Sorry, couldn't resist.
I know it isn't too glamorous, but lets face it - it's as cheap as pips!
All the best

Aww, Janey, you poor dove! I know how stressful that can be. My pup is all the time knocking over my worktable or my son is grabbing beadies as I'm trying to work! _________________ Sarah

Right my entry is called Green Hazy Days, and is made with beads by Julie Fountain from Lush! lampwork. They were totally bargainous as i managed to swipe them on an ebay auction for £8! I have spaced them with some seed beads I got for 50p for the bag from a clearance, and some etched firepolished chzech beads i got free from placing an order with jilly beads, so all in all very bargainous.
edited to say also they have some swarovski rounds which were on sale at jilly beads, when i got my free czech firepolished!
and to top it off, the green coin lampies are like money because they are "green" like the slang name for money, and they are coin shaped
Here we go:
