Hi
I have both books, although both are on crochet, the first book you list (Bead Crochet by Bethany Barry) BB's book uses mainly thread. Her work is full of juicy texture and colour plus there is an interesting introduction on beaded crochet through the ages, with instructions on the different stiches beforehand. I liked it because the patterns have plenty of scope for adlibbing. Although I haven't made anything yet I bought it because I liked her work so much.
The second book, (Crochet with Wire by Nancie M. Wiseman) I have used quite a bit, its very easy to use and is a v nice book to dip into. The patterns also crochet up quite quick. She uses mainly coloured artistic wire, there are a couple of precious metal wire items which do look rather yummy, and a couple of non jewellery items included.
Hope that is useful to you
