I wasn't supposed to get this til my birthday but I had some sort of projectile vomiting issue yesterday (TMI lol!) and my dh said I could have it to cheer me up. I wasn't able to really concentrate on the instructions but the projects are gorgeous & the gallery items are stunning I also really like the use of colour in some of the beads, very different to the way I use colour & I think I'm going to use the book to list some colours to buy at the Cardiff bead fair.

I know some of you have this book & I was wondering what projects you had made & how you found the instructions?

Cheers,

Sarah.

Ooh well done Sarah! On getting the book, not the projectile vomiting though, that's bad Sad Hope you're feeling better.

I've tried three projects from the book so far, one was a disaster and here's links to my other two efforts.....

I really want to try more but a lot of the projects use different size beads (most of my stash constists of size 11s) and Delica beads (I only have one pack!). I'm not very confident at substituting different beads - do you think ordinary seeds will work instead of Delicas?

I wanted to try the Warring States Beads but haven't a clue what a 'bone hair pipe bead' is or what to substitute it with?! Confused

Next on my list is the Puffy Mandala Bead once I get some more Delicas Laughing

Have fun at the bead fair, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it Crying

I don't know how I missed this earlier, sorry! Your beads are great, I love the lucky coin!

Seed beads may work for some instead of delicas. That warring state bead is fab , I'm sure I've seen bone beads that shape in Hobbycraft, I'll check next time I'm there.

hiya-only thing to member about delicas they are smaller than size 11s and they sit together very fimly-could make a difference
lucky you-i ordered this ages ago but i also ordered a fiction book and didnt notice delivery may be 6 wks-if i change the order i will have to pay p/p on 2 lots and the book is for g-son and we want him to read,read,read-so when he asks for books he gets them
so i need to possess my soul in patience Heart

I agree that it is a wonderful book to look at, lots that I want to try.

Just looked at your blog Moonchild - the sea anemone bead was the first one I tried as well, and it is obvious once you get started that the instructions could not possibly produce the beads in the photos. I tried just 5 rounds of size 8s (all together, not each end), then 2 rounds of 11s each end, then 3 of 15s - but even then I had to decrease with the second round of 15s to get a neat round hole. The shape is still not quite the shape of the ones shown in the photo, but much nearer, although if you count the beads in the ones in the photos I think even the number of beads at the start might be wrong in the instructions, as well as the number of rounds with each type. Has any-one else tried this?

I've just started the tetrahedron bead, and the instructions for that one seem to work fine, if I finish it I'll try to post a pic tomorrow!

Well I finished the tetrahedron bead and it's great. I did one more row on each triangle - it was still quite fiddly to zip them all together, but it would be even more fddly if you followed the instructions exactly as each piece would be so small.

I'll try and get a pic tomorrow if the light is good enough.

Hi Ann, I felt that the instructions might be wrong somehow. In fact I got confused right from the start.....how can stringing the beads and tying them into a circle be rounds 1 and 2? My finished bead looked nothing like the one in the photo! I seemed to have too many beads in the middle, my centre hole was much bigger and stuck out. If I pushed it in it just looked mad. Saying that, I do think I went badly wrong somewhere, I'm not very good at doing rounds Laughing

Looking forward to seeing your finished tetrahedron Thumbs up

Liz - with peyote, the first lot of beads you string make up the first 2 rows - I found that confusing when I first learned (all of 3 months ago!). But the instructions are way out from the the pictured result definitely.

Light was awful today, very dull and drizzly, will take a pic if better tomorrow, I have some other recently finished stuff to put up on latest creations as well when I get to take some photos.

So pleased to have found this. I struggled for ages trying to marry up the instructions with the picture, and assumed it was me that was getting it wrong, never occurred to me the book could be wrong! LOL! Sarah
